A dear friend from USA, sent me an old but excellent book on defensive pistol shooting. The book is "Shooting to Live" by Fairbairn and Sykes dating from 1938. Fairbairn and Sykes trained the Shanghai China police in that period and oversaw a large and dangerously busy police department. For those who are into blades, the names of Fairbairn and Sykes should be pretty familiar from their iconic design of the
commando knife.

It is short and seminal, but covers the basics very well, and much modern theory derives from it.
