Interesting to read.
However most of the .22LR ammo I have has 40 grain bullets. Most are CCI.
Advertised velocities:

For Standard 1070
Mini mag: 1235
Velocitator and Stinger: I think is about 1425-50 fps. (need to check)
Eley and Lapua dont know but would expect it in the 1070 -1150 range.

shooting the .22lr at 200 yards will teach you more about wind doping in a hurry than any other method. Wind drift is huge with these slow, light bullets. For the average shooter the effective range of a .22 lr is about 100 meters. At 200 your're already lobbing the bullet.

At one of the ranges I visit, we shoot paint balls at 100 meters with .22lrs, off a bipod and rear bag. It is a fairly frustrating game, where if there is even a 2-5 mph cross wind hit ratios drop to under 10%. An avaerage paintball I think is about .5 inches or .75 inches and fairly challenging to hit even wil ideal conditions at that range with .22's.

there are two terms to think about .
1/ max range ie how far can it go before dropping to ground.
2/ in military terms effective killing range.

these two points are different one to each other.

also you can have .22 round which is longer then ur normal rounds thus contain more power.
and shot placement is something else.
Nagarifle:

The .22 lr has a few cartridges like the Stinger and Winchester Yellow Hornets (jackets? Dont use win amoo its dirty) that feature 30 or 33 grain bullets running in the 1425-1500 fps range.

.22 caliber rounds (not .22lr)which have more case capacity would be the likes of .222 remington, .223 remington or the .22-250. In the case of the last you could send a 40 grain bullet screaming down range at over 4100 fps.

If you're lucky. You would need a 20 MOA piccatany rail plus the scope to get there. A bullet drop in the 10+ foot range will not be accomodated by most scopes on a .22lr.

yes but if someone so keen on testing 200+ on humans you never know
i am intersted in .22-250 in this case
:-)
Thanks for the velocity info CCI , I have kept other params in the calculation standard , with standard G1 projectile and the sub-sonic speeds.

I have a .22-250 and generally shoot the 52, 55 and 60 grain bullets around the 3000 fps mark. They are very accurate, though the barrel will loose accuracy at around 1500 rounds. Am about half way there, once accuracy degrades I am done with the caliber. Much rather have something more accurate.

The .22 LR I love. I shoot about 3-5K rounds a year of it. About 90% of the ammo is CCI Standard and Eley Club. The rest is either the Stinger, Velocitor, Mini Mag type of stuff or Lapua Midas, Eley Tenex type. This goes down range though both pistols and rifles. I probably have about 7K on hand currently.

The Subsonic ammo doesnt get shot a lot, since even CCI standard is fairly quiet thourgh a suppressor.

I believe the .22 lr has accounted for more kills than anyother caliber. I nearly lost a foot to a .22lr, but that was my mistake.

Would certainly not want to be shot with one again.

never ever underestimate .22lr's killing range it can be lethal at one thousand meters.of course in a mauser it is because of the barrel groving and the length of the barrel;depends from cartridge quality and the gun it is fired.

The lethality of a .22 RF bullet has nothing to do with the brand of rifle, nor the style of rifling the barrel has. It only depends on two things: Your ability to place your bullet, and whether the remaining velocity is sufficient to penetrate deep enough to reach a vital organ.

I really find interesting these .22lr power potential debate. We must remember that all firearms and all ammo is by definition lethal and dangerous in would't wanna be shot by a .22 or even the punier .25. I find another thing interesting that whenever one doesn't intend to lethally injure some one with these small rounds or in case of accident they more than often end up being lethal. So like dev says dont be at the receiving end of one.

Have you ever tried to hit something at 1000 meters? At 500 meters? At 300 meters?
I don't know why people talk about .22LR and 1000 meters in the same breath. Or even a center-fire cartridge and 1000 meters ( or 500 meters, for that matter). Have you ever looked at a target over open sights (or even with a scope) at 300 meters? You will be surprised how small the target appears and how hard it is to keep your crosshairs steady on the target.
Any hit with a .22 LR on a man sized target at even 300 meters is bordering on sheer chance. The light low velocity bullet is to susceptible to many factors, some even outside the control of the shooter (like wind, humidity, mirage, etc)

The point that I'm trying to make is that real life is not like a video game. It takes an truly exceptional shooter to consistently hit targets at 1000 yards. There really aren't that many of them around.

Well I have never shot my .22 longer than 150 yards/meter range. Well I think .22 is well capable of shooting long distance (about 300-500 mts). And in regards to lethal range, may some on use the ballistics gel (DIY project- http://www.myscienceproject.org/gelatin.html) and try it.

I would appreciate your replies and experiences on the lethal range of .22.

You will get better response to your query if you use words like 'kindly' , 'please' while asking questions instead of laughing and being rude.

Anyways, I recently bought .22 ammo at these price :
KF = Rs.25/- a pop
Lapua midas = Rs. 40/-
American Eagle (Federal) = Rs. 40/-
Winchester hollow point = Rs.45/-
CCI Stinger = Rs. 45/-

Was also able to manage some KF .22 manufactured in 2010 at Rs. 22 a pop.

.22 LR was not meant for 1000m shots to begin with. 22's can be pretty destructive at 50-100 yard range, not just due to it's energy but due to ease of follow up shots. You can put down 10 rounds in very quick succession within a 2" radius at such distance.

I have always wondered the reason for the 1000m fascination of all shooters. The range I go to has max 600 yards and thats kinda tricky even with a .308! I can barely see the target through my scope, when I shoot target completely disappears off the scope, follow up shot needs lot of time, and i can only come close to the paper in prone or bench rest, shooting unsupported i have never even got close to the paper on my bolt action rifle.
