Bolt For .22 Rifle

Hello Members !!

We have a licensed BSA Super Sport 5 model .22 Rifle.
Unfortunately the Bolt of the rifle got misplaced somewhere may be while in transit.
Can anyone help us in Procuring one .

Hi,

Sanjit a new bolt can be made by a gunsmith for your rifle but it will be a costly affair, try finding the old bolt of your rifle otherwise contact a competent gunsmith who can machine the entire bolt assembly for your rifle.

If you asl a gunsmith or machinist to make a bolt for you:

1. Ask him how he knows what the design of the original bolt was. If he doesn't describe how the original bolt was designed, go elsewhere.

2. Ask him how he sets the headspace. If he doesn't know what "headspace" is or what it means, go elsewhere.

3. Ask him what kind of steel was used in the original bolt, and what kind of steel he intends to use. If he can't answer these questions properly, then go elsewhere.

4. You might observe that you would need to know the answers to these questions yourself, in order to check on the gunsmith or machinist you visit. This is a valid observation. No lawyer asks a witness in court an answer he doesn't already know himself. If you don't know the answers to these questions, then find out. If you can't do so, then you are best finding a factory made bolt. You may only be dealing with a .22, but it is not a toy.

I would really like to know about the gunsmith who can make a rifle bolt in India.

To make this bolt first you would need to have one to copy from. Then you would need to have a CAD drawing prepared. Then design and make jigs to hold the steel so that it can be machined along with CAM file to machine it. Then you would need to get tools made that would make specific cuts. Besides the bolt body you would need to machine at the very least a firing pin and an extractor...probably another pin or two and who knows what else. Then there is the heat treatment. To sum it up, it can be done just not at a price that would make some sense. This is in addition to what Timmy said.

It would be cheaper to import the bolt from UK provided you have the perseverance .
