The OP's time horizon is off by 45-49 years.
AD. 1966-1970
Less than rupees 100 by allotment to Army officers
500-900 purchase from a broke drunk Army-wala, when XXX Rum was @4 bucks 750ml @ the canteen.
1000-1100 from the Dealers
Ammo @25 paisa a pop by allotment, @1-1.25 from dealers

DM's could and did easily issue a SLR license back then with 500/1000 ammo quotas, otherwise obliging LP section clerks were issuing licenses (signed by SDM of course) and entering the carbines @ .30 rifle on NPB licenses.
Oh, the good old days, BSA DBBL's like new for 1300-1500, ponds everywhere full of ducks to shoot and 6"-1'+6" Catfish and Rohu to be snagged.
It was Sportsman's heaven back then in India!

:agree: My dad being a fauji was allotted a weapon in 1965. He had a choice of a sten gun or some fully automatic gun for Rs 150 and a Llama .380 pistol for Rs 37. Since Rs 150 was too expensive for him and he liked the feel of the pistol he bought it for Rs 37 including two cartridges that he never used in his life. He never got a license made as Fauji officers were allowed to keep one weapon without a license.
Now no one knows where it is lying and will probably surface some time in the future. Only the receipt of the payment made, exists that gives the serial number and make of the pistol and the amount paid.

woow, that some cool offer,

if you want i may be able to get a sten for you at a special rat of 20k, unlike your dad my dad was offered the whole arsenal for rps 1000/ and a bottle of rum. he decided to let it go as it was to cheap for him.

ROTFL ROTFL ROTFL ROTFL That would be just wonderful. How long will it take to get delivery, as your rifle is expected by Aug. If it takes too long then I may have to look for something else.

Thanks Nagarifle, I owe you one. Please PM the location from where I have to take delivery or is it at the exit gate of the government auction venue. Just can't wait to lay my hands on it and blast off a few bursts.

Raminder,

If you want a gun buy one...

kanglasa, is an amazing fellow he has a beautiful collection of guns including prohibited bores. And all of them bought dirt cheap from govt./ military auctions and he doesn't disclose where these auctions take place. Even or Army friends can't find such auctions.
Please go through his posts for an insight in his arms collection (no photographs though).

1. He has just bought this M1 Carbine
2. M20 or Tokarev. https://www.indiansforguns.com/search.p ... 4&sr=posts
3. Glock 25
4. 85FS Cheetah Bereta https://www.indiansforguns.com/viewtopi ... 13#p226513

Boy he must be well connected to have a license for at least 4 weapons. Also as he has a PB License owns a carbine and that too in Delhi.. Wow man

I know it's easier said than done, but you really have to get the government to change laws and allow you access to firearms other than the ones they graciously offer you. There is no good reason you can buy IOF .32 but not a modern American or European model. It makes me want to go to the store and buy some M1 carbines and ship them to you but I know it doesn't work that way :(

With nagarifle's permission, I would like to reply to this post after a long time (my last comment on this thread). He had politely asked me to desist a while ago while he cooked up 'something'. So, is the issue sorted out now nagarifle?

I accept your gracious offer of shipping a me genuine, battle worn, M1 Carbine Commonwealth_of_PA , like a shot. I can PM you my address...:D
