Point to ponder...
Earlier we were sold vintage/repaired/re-engineered weapons by dealers for exuberant prices. The situation is similar now with dealers, now able to import weapons from a few countries, even enemy countries, at x amount and sell them for 20x amount, but the only difference is that they accept cheque payments, and the government also benefits from GST.
But won't this be called black marketing, as the govt is encouraging a single-vendor situation?
The latest in this is the 71PH pistol from Baikal, which is sold for 375 Swiss francs in Switzerland, and the Indian price is about 20 times that.
But few people are there who are eager to buy this tomorrow. If the govt allows individual imports through STC (which is quite a possibility), then these people will be stuck with highly expensive weapons. Like many are already stuck with vintage junk. Just this crept up on my mind this Sunday morning, so I'm putting it up for discussion on this forum.

I agree partially. The intent of the Government was good as it wanted Private Companies to collaborate with International players and initiate manufacturing in India. However it seems Companies have initially imported weapons manufactured abroad and have sold them at exorbitant prices through their trusted agents/dealers. Even the Companies that have no collaboration, have been in a hurry to launch .Recently Gretta launched a 8 shot revolver in .357 calibre, regrettably I don't feel assured that the Company has done adequate testing for this weapon.
The reason I say "partially", is that I hope that ultimately Private Companies should deliver Indian made weapons with foreign technology. So far the only Indian Company who has done this is Jindal Tauras. Kuddos to them ...
