Your hunch is probably correct TC. Seems a Webley WP Pocket Hammer Model produced till 1940.

Here are similar guns for sale with the same distinctive hammer. Does not seem to be a modification after all.

What a strange hammer design for a concealed carry gun, would get stuck in the lining every time one draws!!!???
Thanks Bowman for the link.

Gladiatornavi your friend has a weapon with good collector's value.

Indeed and it seems to be in 100% original condition. But It would be sad if it does not belong to the family of Pt. Krishna Gopal Dogra today.

I do hope it gets restored to where it rightly belongs. Come to think of it, what might have been the service history of Pt. Dogra and what days it must have seen riding in his holster. There are few things that evoke the sentimental value that guns do and to have ones name etched on a firearm is really a privilege.

There used to be a Webley in my family from the times of my Great Grand Father who was also a Inspector during the British Raj. Sadly that gun and some of this other possessions were lost somewhere down the line. Since then there have been many firearms in our family but the Webly has always been sorely missed.
