Take family heirloom gun abroad

Post by rollyboy » Wed Jun 26, 2019 12:51 am

I am wondering if anyone could help me with this issue.

My father was in pocession of a licenced shotgun. Since his death the gun was deposited at the police station. I am an OCI and believe I can obtain the gun through the 'heirloom route'. However can I take the gun permanently to the UK where I live?

The gun has sentimental value as it has been in the family for generations.

I can get a licence for pocessing the gun in the UK but I am not aware how (if at all possible) I could take the gun from India to the UK. Can anyone in the forum please advise?

I respect your sentiments,
This is just not worth the effort.
The chances of taking the Gun out, are negligible.
You will first have to apply for a Arms License in India.
Westley Richards did take a lot of Rifles out of India,
Mainly Double Rifles, This was about 15-20+ years back.
They serviced/refurbished the Rifles and sold them for a ransom.
All these Rifles were primarily collected from Gun Shops.
I have no knowledge on how to export a Fire-Arm.
Maybe a Gun Shop in UK can arrange this.
The energy, patience and money involved is high.
The major issue faced will be within India,
It is impossible to get your reason across to the authorities.
I am also aware of certain foreign individuals,
Who have exported large caliber Rifles from India.
These were purchased for personal use.
These Rifles were purchased directly from the Owners,
Who were themselves Licensed Hunters for Rouge Elephants.
