Dear Mr.Grumpy,

Thank you for your detailed observation and description.

Since my childhood, I have never seen any part of this gun covered in rust, it might have been before my father had purchased it. Other thing is my father had been a regular user of this gun in hunting and he also use to take great care in good condition.

I also try my best in good condition by regularly oiling it.

Serial number is stamped on the underside of barrel, forehand and on the upper part of box lock.

Last year, I have my forehand wood replaced as the earlier wood have started cracking on many place.

WR never made any gun under C series.any proof?
Dear Ashok,

Do you mean it's a fake Westley Richards gun.

Earlier I have sent a e-mail to Westley Richards company by attaching the pictures and serial number stamped on all different parts, I want to know the date of manufacture. I received a reply from the company that it's a original gun manufactured by Westley Richards had been manufactured between 1925-28

Dear Mundaire,

Thank you for your appreciation :)

Mr.Grumpy,

Can you please help me in finding the manufacturer of my R B Rodda rifle, I have been trying for many year to identify the manufacturer.

Regards all
Najeeb

najeeb_khan. There`s no other explanation that I can think of for the quite severe wear of the engraving. Over years the acids in sweat and rubbing by the hands and cloths will take the sharpness off engraving but cannot cause such heavy wear.
R B Rodda had their guns made by various gunmakers over the years. Photographs of the rifle would help considerably in establishing a maker. Is it a double rifle ? As you probably know, Rodda had retail premises in London and Calcutta and a factory in Birmingham. Vikram and I know the grandson of the last owner of R.B.Rodda who has a great deal of information about the company so, if necessary, we can approach him.

Ganguly, Thanks for your appreciation.

Mr.Grumpy,
You might be right in your explanation, probably there might be rusting on the gun before my father purchased it in 1960s, but my father have always kept in good condition.

Ashok bhai have posted the link of my rifle, there you can see the pictures. I will really appreciate if you please help me find the manufacturer of rifle.

Regards
Najeeb

Walter Clode was not the only dealer to buy guns from India - Paul Roberts of J.Roberts & Son regularly visited India between the 1960s and 1980s to buy guns and there were others who did the same. It was business and the sellers didn`t have to sell.

Sorry Sir, I won't call you Mr.Grumpy again

That's a very high price, when that gun was manufactured.

What`s a high price ?
£6795 is the price currently being asked for the gun - when it was new in 1923 it would probably have been somewhere about £100. By boxlock standards £6795 is a LOT of money for a used gun but the W-R single trigger droplocks aren`t all that common and that particular example is in very nice condition.
Gun prices in India bear no relation to prices elsewhere in the world.
