Grumpy, should I be very worried about the rust seen on the front of the rib in the next pic?

They are but nothing to worry about as they are exaggerated in the pic - magnified image and a very strong light. The barrel is still blued though it shows up as a grey in that pic.

Yours is a 1949 model made by ZBROJOVKA BRNO. Cause the logo is same as mine and this logo was made between this period. Where as the year of manufacture is always written in two figures. It is shown in ur gun as '49'. Mine is of 1948. See the photo for more details.

No not really, not much to worry about the rust on the front end of the barrel rib. A good cleaning job with an anti rust spray either on your weekend or a trip to a good gunsmith should solve the problem. The gun seems to be in fair condition.

CZ Paldy Elecktras are very robust and reliable. A good gun for rough use.

Danish,

Thanks a ton for that. Indeed, the last two digits of the serial number are 49.

Mack The Knife,

You have a CZ/Brno ZP 49, a fine gun by any standard you would like to apply. These were made through the war and imported until production was stopped in 1986. The gun is a true sidelock and the action is very nice for a gun at it's price. You could think of restoring it yourself or of sending it to the US or the UK to get it restored - nothing fancy, just basic work. This gun would last your lifetime, your childrens' and their childrens' if cared for, something that I am certain you would do.

Superb buy and get started shotgunning asap. 8) :) When you visit here, we'll have many drinks to celebrate!

On an OT note, it is nice to see that rare and good guns are still available in India at good prices these days.

Guys considering the age of the gun (1949)....its quite a well kept gun....Side locks are anyway difficult to find..... WD40 ....spray shud arrest the rust .

Mack The Knife,

Buy it and then forget about what you have paid for it.It's a nice gun and in better condition than the majority of the shotguns that you find in India. Talking about price.Dealers buying price 45-60,000/- asking price 80-95,000/-.
