IOF 12 gauge O/U.

Post by Mack The Knife » Tue Jan 23, 2007 12:47 pm

Apparently these were made for trap with imported parts, barring the stock.

What do the members know about this gun?

Thanks.

Mack The Knife,

This is the first time I have heard of an IOF O/U.Have you seen it.Or is it like those mythical creatures that many have seen but none has proof of  Or is it like -My friend has seen it/My friends friend has shot it or I know it on good authority tales that have been passed on to you.

This is the first time I have heard of an IOF O/U.
Same here but a gun shop owner here says he can show me one this week. Wouldn't be surprised if it is something else that is being passed off as an IOF.

Will post the pics if and when I see it.

I have heard that the IOF imported bolt rifles and shotguns from Czechoslovakia for NCC use in the early 1980s. Never saw any of the guns and this is only second hand information. Will look forward to the pics here when you post them.

Cheers!

Mehul, May be true, the story about IOF importing guns from Czechoslovakia but they never got passed onto us NCC cadets in the 80's -might have gone to some politically connected types, usual story.

Mehul story is correct, some Czeck shotguns were imported in the late 70's-early 80's. Who imported them NRAI or IOF, no idea.

When I was shopping for my shotgun end of 1978, dealers had some sorta New in Box condition Czeck shotguns. They were O/U's and were nice and well finished, a little heavy though, don't remember the name or model.

However they were very expensive, Rs 7000-8000. This was at a time when the IOF SXS sold for Rs 2500 NIB and good condition BSA SXS could be had for Rs 5000.

If it were these guns they could be hardly cheap even now?

Mehul,

GOI had imported Brno .22 rifles as part of a programme similar to the Civilian Marksmanship Prog. and these were given to NCC units. They have been lying un-used as the govt. has not provided funds for this for a long time. They can't be used for anything else unless the GOI grants permission for this.I have no idea about Czech 12 ga. shotguns. All the ones that I have seen with the NCC are the IOF sxs 12 ga.The IOF still manufactures these for the Armed Forces and NCC.However this is on order and the delivery period is about a year,if not more.Wonder why they do not sell it in the civilian market

PS-The NRAI had also imported .22 Brno's.The manner in which these were distributed is very interesting.

I have never heard of an IOF O/U though there were the ones made in JK but that does not mean one does not exist. Even if it does it definitely is not worth the trouble or good for Trap Shooting as I have not seen a single shooter use it till date even though there is an acute shortage of weapons and beginners have to borrow from people or the SAI to start off and reach a stage where they can import their own.

No, Visho.

Did not bother going back to the shop once his, "I will show you in a week's time" had expired.

Bought a SxS instead.
