Bandicoots

When bandicoots are discussed here on the forums, which bandicoots are being discussed (or is it both kinds?):

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greater_bandicoot_rat

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lesser_bandicoot_rat

As both of these animals are smaller than rabbits (I think), may I presume that what would kill a rabbit would be sufficient to dispatch one of these pests?

Thank you!

Yes sir. In my Exp. I have used .22 and good result. I shot one down.
Never tried with .177, never use any Firearms.
But with sling shots it's easy to wipe them.

The Greater Bandicoot is commonly found in the cities.
They mainly dwell close to garbage dumps.
The Lesser Bandicoot which is smaller is common to areas where grains are stored.
As mentioned in Wikipedia, they are found in rural areas.
Both multiply extremely fast.
These are slower and smaller than Rabbits.
Have personally never tried dispatching one but an Air-Gun will do the trick.
If one is adventurous enough then even a 5 Ft. strong (stick) will be effective.
Provided you are dealing with a single critter and not 2-3 of them together.
They are definitely aggressive, if messed with.
When in the open they move fast between close distances,
And will be difficult to sight in, on a rifle, unless one is waiting concealed.
Shot will have to be taken at close range, which is not advised,
As the bullet will ricochet.
(Shot on a Greater Bandicoot will in all probability have to be taken against a concrete/tarmac in the background).
Bird-Shots/Rat-Shot/Snake-Shot would be ideal in a .22 LR Pistol/Revolver.
I agree with Shivaji.Dasgupta, Sling-Shot would be most effective.

Jr.

Thanks for the details about these critters, brothers. They do indeed seem like very pesky animals to have around, but it seems they could also be a great source of sport, if allowed.
