A selection of videos from the history channel on the subject:
D-Day Videos
This includes an interview with Dick Winters of the 506th PIR of the 101st Airborne.
“Never give in, never give in, never; never; never; never – in nothing, great or small, large or petty – never give in except to convictions of honor and good sense” — Winston Churchill, Oct 29, 1941

Two must watch for anyone who likes most realistic depictions of 2nd world war from US perspective.

1. Saving Private Ryan
2. Band of Brothers (mini series)

Band of Brothers is true story of Dick Winters (as mentioned by XL above) and his company and their adventures through Europe after they are para dropped (parachute) behind enemy lines and as they fight and advance to Nazi Germany.
