Replacing INSAS Rifles with New Weapon

Replacing INSAS Rifles with New Weapon

No proposal for replacement of all INSAS Rifles given to our forces is under consideration of the Governments at present. However, weapons like Assault Rifles (7.62 x 39 mm), Sniper Rifles, X-95 Assault Rifles, Glock Pistols, MP-5 Sub Machine Guns and Carbines have been provided to CAPFs. Further, 67,117 nos. Additional Assault Rifles (7.62 x 39 mm) have been authorized for CRPF Bns deployed in LWE & J&K region against replacement of 5.56 mm INSAS Rifles. Different weapons have their unique features and strengths.

Modernization of weapons to security forces is a continuous process as per operational requirement of the concerned security force.

This was stated by the Minister of State for Home Affairs, Shri Haribhai Parathibhai Chaudhary in a written reply to a question by Shri Palvai Govardhan Reddy in the Rajya Sabha today.

For India I think replacing the 303 was a good idea though not fully implemented. You still see some cops with 303's.
But compromising the nations security by not upgrading the weapons should be considered a serious offence by the law.

Here's some interesting information.....
The Indian Infantry Soldier may soon be issued the "New 6.8mm Ammo".....read an excerpt provided in the following link.

INDIAN ARMED FORCES
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indian_Armed_Forces

The Indian Armed Forces are the world's largest arms importer, with Russia, Israel. The code of conduct of the Indian military is detailed in a semi-official book. A 7.62 mm and a new 6.8 mm are under development for the first time in India.
Infantry
The Indian Army has also embarked on an infantry modernization program known as Futuristic Infantry Soldier As a System (F-INSAS). The weapons sub-system is built around a multi caliber individual weapon system with the fourth caliber attached to a grenade launcher. These include a 5.56 mm, a 7.62 mm and a new 6.8 mm under development for the first time in India.
History, Details, Ballistics, and Drop for the 6.8mm Remington SPC
Height: 1.686"
Width: 0.422"
Average FPS: 2600
Average Energy: 1696
Average Gr: 113

The new 6.8 mm designed in the early 2002 by Remington is a cartridge that just may replace the 5.56 x 45mm a cartridge that has proven to be woefully ineffective in stopping its intended targets. The 6.8 mm cartridge is a little between the 5.56 and the 308, it is for all purposes a 0.270 round meaning it packs a bigger punch and still allows for more rounds to be carried.

Does that mean my 270 Winchester becomes a prohibited bore. I am truly worried sick.

Marksman, don't worry. 6.8mm is not Remington SPC. It is based on Arisaka 6.5mm and under development by one of the DRDO labs. AFAIK it is being developed by ARDE for use in MCIWS.
