Pics of Easter Blood Moon!

Post by brihacharan » Mon Apr 13, 2015 10:45 am

Hi Guys,
The images posted below were sent to me by a friend....
It appears they were photographed from the Army Depot in Leh on the 4th April 2015....
Also the foot note mentioned a Sigma 500mm tele lens was used with a timed exposure....
Incidentally I saw the Easter Blood Moon while I was in Chennai on the 5th April 2015....truly an awesome sight!

Brihaji,
The field of view at 500mm is pretty small. For him to have taken such a wide angle shot with a telephoto lens is very unusual. Also the moon appears to be disproportionately large.
Not sure if the image highlights the photography or photoshop skills of the sender :P

I too feel its the result of some skillful photo-shopping

PS: The visual imagery is very pleasing!

Quite a professional job considering that an army person has taken them.
Awesome. No other word comes to mind.

The imagery is stunning, but the first pic looks like an morning shot of the lake with the moon superimposed. The sun is behind the photographer. See the shadow of the mountain on the left edge of the lake. If it were real, with such a huge moon, no secondary light source would be evident.

The moon is substantially closer to the Earth in the 2nd pic. Should have been a major SHTF event, tsunamis, tidal waves, etc. etc.

The colour of the moon is also very easy to get.

It is extremely difficult to shoot the moon at night. I tried it on the last "supermoon" a couple of years ago. Even with tripod and remote click, there is still blur in the pic. Was using my workhorse Canon 500 D with 70-250 lens. Exposures upto 1 min. Let me see if I have retained those pics.

Thank God for the engineers at Adobe, Inc.!!
Cheers!

My thoughts exactly

Heres a close up of the moon i took while in Bandipur.
img5001.jpg
Used the Canon 500 F4 L IS with a 2x converter to click the image. With the converter added the image stabilization went out of the window. So the biggest challenge was to hold my hands steady enough for 3 odd seconds to avoid blur, a task not made easy with the few shots of spirits consumed before taking this image :P
