Conservation would not have much effect till examples like this exist. A tiger killed in India for Rs. 5000/- retails for $50,000 in the international market.
But we did have huge successes with Project Tiger when it helped the tiger population that used to be 100,000 in the 19th century, grow from 1827 in 1972 to 4334 in 1989.Now we are back to less than 2000 left (realistically more like 1200-1500).
That is back to square one, after spending crores on conservation.

I agree corporate world needs to play a bigger role, especially companies who used the natural resources, should replenish them. Case in example Ballarpur paper factory near chanda maharashtra. My dad used to tell stories how labor would travel in groups with lighted torches to ward off Tigers etc. Now none of the old bamboo forest remains, they could have done a better job of tree farming.
How does one donate to WASi kind of org?

Project Tiger had a very strong sponsor Mrs Gandhi and then Rajeev and program fell on wayside from there on. It needs to be reinitiated on lines of South Africa etc..

Hi Navdeep,

There are various possibilities:

1) You could buy stickers at Rs.100/- per pop. http://www.wasiindia.com/news.html

2) Send a cheque payable to Wildlife Life Association of South India along with a covering letter.
http://www.wasiindia.com/contactus.html

3) Become a life member.

4) Adopt a guard for as many months as you like. I think they are paid between Rs.2,500/- to Rs.3,000/- per month.

Thanks for the interest.
