Remarkable Father and Son duo

Post by skeetshot » Mon Apr 02, 2012 10:06 pm

The recently concluded Big Bore Shooting Championships at the Kadarpur ranges witnessed an extraordinary feat of excellence in shooting when two civilian shooters, Sukhdeep Singh and his son Mansimaran Singh picked up a whopping 11 medals and set two National Records using a Blaser LRS in 6mmBR.

With Gold in the 300 meter Standard Rifle 3 Position (New National Record), Gold in the 300 meter Free rifle 3 position (New National Record) and Gold in the 300 meter Prone event, this young lad was adjudged "The Best Shooter in the Tournament" and awarded a special Memento and along with his Father, the two of them won a total of 11 medals, that too after each had two washouts on account of faulty electronic targets.

It is extremely difficult for civilians in this event as access to 300 meter ranges, adequate ammunition and proper rifles are limited. The duo shot the Free rifle event using the standard 1.2 kg trigger pull where a max of 250 gms is the norm.

Blaser LRS in 6mmBR.
I got more questions .

Why there are no other info than just some one getting gold medals .

How it's all possible when there are no availability of many said things- Haji

If I understand your question correctly, are you asking how they managed to get hold of the said rifle in that calibre?

If that is your question, if you become a renowned shot by shooting the qualifying scores in an NRAI approved match,IIRC, you can import three guns of that discipline and 15,000 rounds. So, I think these gents imported a Blaser in 6mm BR and practiced a lot and achieved what they did.

Best-

Thanks , so importing is possible .

But how" you become a renowned shot by shooting the qualifying scores in an NRAI approved match" at the first place  - Haji

You first shoot state level competition, there you achieve minimum qualifying score for Nationals, then you participate in nationals, conducted by NRAI and shoot Minimum Qualifying score (MQS), if you achieve MQS in national you are termed as Renowned Shot and then you are eligible to import.

Hammerhead,

A number of these who have imported rifles, rent hem out for the event. The rate is per event and normally includes 100 rounds. A person has to qualify at the Mavlankar to be able to shoot in the Nationals. So he has to rent the rifle twice.

The cost of renting out a rifle for both the pre qualifying stage and Nationals is Rs.80,000/- and upwards.

Its indeed a remarkable achievment where these two civilian shooters cornered medals at national shooting event, more so when the duo competed in a event dominated by shooters from services who have access to best faciliites available in the country.

It also tells sorry state indian shooting is in rather hurdles civilian shooters face. The cost of equipment & ammo (which is prohibitively costly) is born by the shooter with no facility whatsoever from goverment or so called state shooting associations. Less said about the availabilty of range better.

Still facing such hurdles, these men have done wonders. G8

Cheers
