Congratulations!
Looks like a 740/742. This one looks in decent shape.

Yes sir you are right ...........its remington woodsmaster 740. this model has been long discontinued by remington but this baby cycles great and shoots even better.Actually i bought it from a guy who works with me and he had it sitting in his collection for a while . this beauty has only 20 shots fired through it in 40 years . isnt that amazing. so this is how it started ................i was talking to this old buddy in our cafe and he started talking about guns and stuff and how he wants to get rid of some of his guns so i asked him if he wants to sell them to me and he agreed . he showed me quite a few but i was interested in this rifle . its a remington woodsmaster 740 in 30-06. he told me that he bought it brand new in 1965 and only fired about 20 rounds and its been sitting in his cabnet for all these years . its in awesome shape. so i asked him how much he wanted for it . and the words that came out of his mouth were magical. 150 $...........i was like are you serious . so i got this beauty for on 150 bucks which i guess is a good deal .

150 bucks? Ya, you stole it from him :)
Keep in mind that some early 740's had a problem with the forearm affecting the point of aim, supposedly fixed in the 742. If it does have issues with strung out groups, there are many aftermarket synthetic forearm/stock kits that will fix the problem. If you could locate a spacer made for the 740 this would alleviate the problem too. Yours might not have that problem. Take it out and shoot it. I've used a 742 in .30-06 and i liked it.

A tactical 740? Well, its your rifle.

If you really want a good free floated tactical stock, email these guys and ask them if their stock can be modified to fit your rifle.
This fore end allows the barrel to free float on a 7600, etc.

The rear end looks like the same thing (except that it has an adjustable cheek piece).
As for the front end, just make sure it is for the correct model. If possible, the stock should not touch the barrel as this will affect the point of impact.
Have you shot the rifle yet? Please let us know what kind of groups you're able to achieve (before and after your stock change)

Hi Raj,

Lucky you, buying a second hand 30-06 is atleast 4-5 lakhs in India. Your 30-06 seems to be in good shape. Enjoy it.

regards,
drifter.
