I have an IOF .22 rifle too. And i think its accurate enough (or may be very accurate).

A new 1 rupee coin sized circle, 25 meters and in kneeling position, iron sight and i was able to get a 1 inch away from the circle . I am not a professional .

I've just bought a new .22lr IOF.

Would like advice from existing users about the following

1. It appears to have dirt etc on the bolt, magazine etc, which rubs off on the fingers. So I took WD40 and sprayed and wiped everywhere I could using kitchen towels, ear buds and a soft cloth.

2. The bolt movement is not as smooth as it should probably be. A bit forced.

3. Magazine spring movement is hardly smooth.

4. After cleaning it up, I lightly applied machine oil.

So this is what I want to know

1. How does one strip and clean this rifle?
2. What materials should be used? Is WD40 suitable? Is Singer Machine Oil Suitable?
3. What are the areas to be oiled? Inside the bolt mechanism?
4. How to make the trigger smoother? Do I spray WD40 inside?
5. I've heard of lapping.. where and how should it be done? Is it recommended generically or in specific instances only?
6. I'm still to fire it. Any other things to do before first firing? After first firing?
7. What is a good cleaning/oiling/maintenance regime?

I had a similar problem with the magazine of my 30.06 rifle. It was very difficult to force in 5 rounds in the magazine and after that the bolt was very hard to close. That was because the cartridges were so tightly packed in the magazine that it was difficult to slide it out into the chamber.
I solved this by repeatedly washing out the magazine by dipping it completely in petrol. Then sprayed WD-40 on the springs and finally pouring a locally made gun oil on the springs inside.
This process I repeated a number of times (probably 5 to 6 times) and applied synthetic grease on the lip of the magazine.
Now it works smooth as butter.

Chandan: WD40, if sprayed on heavily and left on the gun, will over time form a hard yellow deposit, seemingly more so in combination with oil. It can lock up small parts such as safeties, triggers, bolt releases. If used on a gun it should be wiped down. Do not use it on tightly fitting sliding parts where it cannot be wiped off.

Later I came to know that 'front sight' of the same rifle was replaced by local gunsmith and rifle was not properly zeroed after that modification. Otherwise accuracy might be improved. I am also planning to replace my .315 iof for a .22 in near future.

Dr.: "Accuracy" of a rifle is not determined by where the sights are pointing. It is an intrinsic quality of barrel, and bedding of the barrelled action. A rifle that shoots an eight inch group centered on where you are aiming is not accurate; a rifle that shoots a group covered by a rupee a foot off your aiming point is. Cheers.

Can anyone enlighten me the current price of IOF .22 (LR). Gun Dealers here in Assam and Arunachal Pradesh are asking 1.4 k for modified and 90k for factory make. Thanks in advance.

Refer to http://rfi.nic.in/ the price of the .22 rifle is Rs. 33,770 taxes extra, available from RFI, Kolkata. It would be worth booking it directly and taking delivery from Kolkata. The only issue would be that you can't sell it for 5 years.

I happened to fire lawman's new scoped IFO .22 lr.at range.
This is a very accurate and sweet rifle .
Honestly I enjoyed shooting with this more then club's old brnos.
This rifle worth buying.
