BUYING 12 BORE CARTRIDGES ABROAD

Dear All,i would like to purchase imported cartridges from outside of india which country can i buy them in.
I am regular flier to the east and west

I believe you can bring in a max of 50. Check with the legal eagles who know the law better than I do.

here in uk and europe you need a licence (for here not indian) to purchase ammo. do u have a gun license for any country outside india?

Dear MOA and Shooter,
I do know that 50cart is the maximum one can carry,also that indian licence holder cannot buy in cartridges UK.Was in Birmingham-UK a week back.
Friends what iam desperate to know is 'in which country besides USA can we indians purchase cartridges on our indian firearm licence'.
Sometime back a member SSC had posted that he purchased cartridges in singapore from chye whatt,on enquiring with them,they said they no more sell it.
Anybody else having any information,please guide me.

One more thing,will be moving lock stock and barrel to UK in the near future.
What is the procedure to obtain a FAC for non british passport holders who have a work permit.
Would be interested in bringing back a good 12bore shotgun or a .22 rifle on my TR.

logicically looking at things, a licence issued in India is only valid in India.(apart from EU, which can be had if one holds local EU one.) and no where else. what can happen is that you pay a company to bring the shots to the airport on their own licence and put it on plan for you so to speak, and you pay for it. The max as you is 50 shots so you will pay more then what the shots costs. not worth it.(not counting renowned shots etc)

so its a tough one to crack.

Actually on a EU firearms permit you can legally transport weapons and ammo across the EU, no issues. You can in principle even carry weapons to the US, but something I havent personally tried.
Firearms dealers could deliver the ammo at the airport counter, and you would get posession in India. Yes it is expensive but would be by all accounts cheaper than buying it in India.

gunrunner: if you qualify as a NRI, and then go back on a TR, I believe within various parameters it might be possible for you to carry a weapon or three back.

What i want to know is that can i purchase a 12bore or .22 in UK by on my indian firearm licence or do i have to procure a local FAC(Firearm Certificate).Does the indian consulate come into the picture for giving import certificate to NRI's going back to India on TR?
Without a UK FAC the UK dealers wont let me touch a Firearm.
Has any forum member imported a 12bore or ,22 on a TR?

You will have to apply for a shotgun certificate for a 12b or a FAC for a .22 in UK, both of which can be granted irrespective of your nationality, as long as you have proof of address and a secure place to bolt a gun cabinet (and a convincing reason to own firearms). You Indian firearm license will help you in your interview to convince the Firearms Officer.

Most, if not all, UK gun dealers will happily let you browse even if you do not have a license. Your license will certainly let you do the browsing with confidence though!!

You will have to prove that you have held the gun for a minimum of 12 months to take it back on TR. So I suggest you start applying as early as possible when you appear. Remember, if you are renting a house , make sure you discuss it with the agency, because the cabinet needs to be securely bolted to a wall.

i would not relay on the Indian arms licence for anything in the UK. if it works fine if not fine, should be the attitude taken.

Given that I know very little of the Gun Law in the UK or India, I do not know the proceedures around getting a FAC or an improt certificate.
Your best bet would be to contact the Police in the UK or people like shooter who do know the process, for the purchase of a weapon in the UK. And the Indian Counsulate/Embassy for the stuff required for India.

Your responses were very informative and helpful.
Have also spoken to a cousin who's a doctor in leicester and has a police officer friend(retired recently).Who could surely help me understand the application process and requirements.
My 12 bore licence is some 20years old (and clean)which should be helpful in obtaining an FAC.Though the UK parameters for granting a FAC maybe totally different.
Uk firearm dealers first ask if one has a FAC ,if yes they will entertain your request to browse or else it will be polite no.
Have experienced it before.
MoA,i think only one weapon can be imported on TR not three,correct me if i am wrong.If three is possble will get a .22 licence before leaving.

TR only one can be taken, there was one guy who took 3 after taking with the chap at the Indian High commission who told him he can take three. upon arriving in Delhi customs gave him a choice of picking one of the three(he had Indian licence for three arms) the chap went to the Delhi High court, and lost the case. case judgement is on net somewhere. TR is only one arm.

As Sanjay had mentioned long time ago..nowadays with security alerts and heightened concern for bombs, ammo etc on planes its better and safer to pay the extra premium and buy the ammo in India itself. Rather than getting into hassles on foreign airport and cooling heels in some security center or a jail especially when they act first and ask questions later. Also in NYC. Having said that in certain US states one can easily purchase ammo no gun license or permit required. But for example New York City has very stringent rules for ammo and gun transit. Once at the airport inform the agents and security have proper forms and paperwork in hand.. Other posts have probably explained this more detail conduct some research on this site.
