Re: "Multum in Uno" Hammer Toplever Sidelock Combination Gun
Hi sniper,
Its called a drilling (from the German drei for three) refers to a combination gun that has three barrels, which may be any mixture of rifle and shotgun barrels. Have seen one with gunmark in pune, It was 16ga/16ga with .360 some time back.
Regards,
Shah

I have seen combinations - but never a hammered version before.

Re: "Multum in Uno" Hammer Toplever Sidelock Combination Gun
The first patent for a cartridge Drilling ("triplet") was issued in 1878 to Peter Oberhammer, a gunsmith in Munich, for a hammer gun. What's interesting about the Rodda gun is not that it is a hammer gun, but the configuration, with the rifle barrel on top, which places much greater stress on the action. However, with the cartridge it is chambered for, and double Greener (Kersten) top bolting, that should not be a problem.
Interesting gun. The Brits normally didn't go for combinations, except the SxS Cape gun. Good find. Cheers.

You're right, Vikram. What I took for Greener extensions on each side of the rifle barrel seem to be no more than the top of the breech sculpted to meet and match the two ribs. Also evident from the catalog. Not made for a powerful rifle cartridge. Will teach me to look more closely, and go to the very end of the post! Cheers.

Thank you.So many Teutonic guns I saw have the Greener/Kirsten crossbolt that it looks odd if one of the earlier guns doesn't have one.I am trying to learn.

Ok, how much ever foolish it may sound; there's no problem with the exposed hammer versions, but how does one cock the hammerless SXS or the O/U? Someone please enlighten me.

Opening the breech and pivoting the barrels down to load cocks the internal locks; and ejectors if present. Cheers.

Thanks TwoRivers (is that a Jeff Beck influence?), but there must be a way to de-cock them as well?

To safely decock hammerless guns (without damage to any parts), one should get a pair of snap caps. You can either buy a pair or fabricate them yourself.Rottmeister wrote:Thanks TwoRivers (is that a Jeff Beck influence?), but there must be a way to de-cock them as well?

Genesis torn, Enigma solved, Utopia found, Euphoria born.
But isn't there any way to keep them loaded yet uncocked?

Understood; I've had experiences with an exposed hammer SXS so far; never had the chance to lay my hands upon the hammerless ones.

Re: "Multum in Uno" Hammer Toplever Sidelock Combination Gun
I'm fairly sure that all Multum-in-Uno guns sold by R B Rodda & Co, and there were not many of them - maybe half a dozen at most, were made by W & C Scott during the 1890s. They were non-ejectors and had no cross bolts.
