Ah c'mon, Diwali, for the kids at least, would just be another day without the lights and fireworks.

As the sage would say, in inimitable verse:

Agnishikha, esho, esho, ano ano alo.
--Oh fire-filament, come, bring bring (thy) light.

Dukkhey shukhey gharey gharey grihadeep jwalo..
--amidst happiness and sadness – in every home light the home-lamp..

Ano shakti, ano dipti, ano Shanti, ano tripti,
ano snigdho bhalobasha, ano nityo bhalo..

--Bring shakti, bring glow, bring peace, bring fulfillment,
Bring sublime love, bring good everyday

Esho punyo-patho beye esho hey Kalyani-
Shubho supti, shubho jagoron deho ani.

--come via the sacred path, come hey Kalyani (one who does good)
Conscious and unconscious states may please be blessed

Dukhorate matribeshey jege thako nirnimeshey
Anando-utsav tabo shubhro hnashi dhalo..

--on a sad night (sad because of new moon darkness- physical interpretation – and evils – the symbolic interpretation)
On a sad night – like a mother you stay awake all night
For the blissful-celebrations – pour your blessed smile..

--Rabinda Nath Tagore

Happy Diwali all!
